Best GEO Audit Tools 2026: What Works and What's Just a Dashboard

By Greg Arnold

Best GEO audit tools 2026 comparison of dashboards versus audits

Over $80 million in venture funding flowed into GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) tools in 2025. Profound alone raised $58.5 million from Sequoia, Kleiner Perkins, and NVIDIA. There are now 30+ products in the category.

We built GeoScored. We’ve studied every one of these tools. The market splits into two categories, and understanding the split will save you from buying the wrong thing.

Dashboards vs. audits

Monitoring tools track what AI engines say about you. They show dashboards and trend lines. They answer: “Is AI mentioning my brand?”

Audit tools analyze your actual content and tell you what to fix. They answer: “Why isn’t AI citing my content, and what changes will improve that?”

Most of the funding and attention has gone into monitoring. That’s backwards.

Monitoring tells you the score. It does not move the score. If your content isn’t structured for AI to extract clean, citable passages, watching a dashboard won’t change that. Fix the content first. Then track whether the fixes worked.

GEO tools comparison showing what each tool tells you versus what it cannot

Tool Type What it tells you What it can’t tell you Starting price
GeoScored Page-level audit What to fix, why, and in what order Ongoing AI mention trends (yet) $5/scan
Profound Monitoring Whether AI mentions you across 10+ engines What to fix on your pages ~$399/mo
Ahrefs Brand Radar Monitoring AI Share of Voice over time What to fix on your pages $699/mo add-on
Semrush AI Visibility Monitoring AI visibility alongside traditional SEO What to fix on your pages ~$99/mo add-on
Otterly.AI Monitoring Prompt-based brand tracking What to fix on your pages $29/mo
Geoptie Audit Basic GEO score (free tier) Methodology not publicly documented Free / $49/mo

Notice the pattern in the “What it can’t tell you” column.

The monitoring landscape

Profound has the most impressive fundraise in the category. The dashboards are comprehensive. Ten AI engines monitored simultaneously. But here is the question nobody selling monitoring wants you to ask: what do you do with that information? Profound cannot tell you why your content isn’t being cited. It cannot tell you your heading hierarchy is broken or that your HTML degrades when AI models convert it to their working format. It watches the outputs without diagnosing the inputs. If you’re paying $399+/month to observe a problem, you still need a separate tool to actually fix it.

Ahrefs Brand Radar comes from a company with genuinely strong data. Their research shows AI Overviews reduce organic clicks by 58%, which is part of why they built Brand Radar. But at $699/month on top of an existing Ahrefs subscription, this is purely monitoring. No page-level analysis. No recommendations. That’s $8,400 per year to track a number you need a different tool to move.

Semrush AI Visibility integrates AI tracking into its SEO platform. Convenient for existing customers. The uncertainty: Adobe announced it will acquire Semrush for $1.9 billion in November 2025, with the deal pending regulatory approval and expected to close in the first half of 2026. Product direction during a major acquisition integration is unpredictable, and GEO features are add-on capabilities, not the core product.

Otterly.AI does prompt-based monitoring well. Their research found 95% of AI answers depend on third-party sources, which is credible work that validates the category. At $29/month for 15 prompts, it’s the most affordable option. It still can’t tell you what to change on your pages.

The audit landscape

Geoptie has a free GEO audit with no signup. Low friction. The concern is that their audit methodology is not publicly documented. When you can’t see what an audit checks, how it weights those checks, or what research backs the methodology, you’re trusting a black box. Hard to prioritize fixes when you don’t understand what the score measures.

SE Ranking bundles GEO into a traditional SEO platform starting around $65/month. GEO is one feature among many. Depth is limited compared to purpose-built tools.

What we built

GeoScored audit showing 24 checks across four pillars with prioritized recommendations

We built GeoScored because nothing else goes deep enough.

GeoScored runs 24 checks across four pillars: Technical AI-Readiness, Structural Extractability, Entity Strength, and SEO Foundation. You get a 0-100 score with a prioritized list of what to fix and why each fix matters, not just a number, but a ranked list of specific changes ordered by impact.

Several of those checks exist nowhere else in the market. Where monitoring tools tell you IF AI mentions your brand, we tell you WHY your content isn’t being cited and WHAT to change. The AI Brand Check queries multiple AI engines directly and shows you how each one describes your brand right now, as a diagnostic, not a trend line.

Pricing:

  • Lite Scan: $5 (23 checks, instant results, no subscription required)
  • Full Report: $49 (all 24 checks including AI Brand Check)
  • Starter: $99/mo (10 scans/mo)
  • Professional: $299/mo (50 scans/mo)
  • Partner: $499/mo (100 scans/mo)

How to think about this

Start with an audit. Fix what’s broken. Then add monitoring to track whether the fixes are translating to visibility gains.

Buying a monitoring tool before auditing your content is like hiring a personal trainer who only reads your weight off the scale. The number matters, but it doesn’t change without the work.

AI Overviews now appear in up to 30% of US search queries. AI-referred traffic to websites grew 527% year over year. This is not a future trend. It is the current reality.

If you want to know exactly what is wrong with a specific page and how to fix it, run a GeoScored scan. The Lite scan takes under two minutes, costs $5, and shows you 23 checks with prioritized recommendations. No subscription required.
