Best GEO Audit Tools 2026: What Works and What's Just a Dashboard
By Greg Arnold
The GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) tools category attracted significant venture investment through 2025 and into 2026. Profound alone has raised $155 million across multiple rounds — including a February 2026 Series C at a $1 billion valuation. There are now 30+ products in the category.
We built GeoScored. We've studied every one of these tools. The market splits into two categories, and understanding the split will save you from buying the wrong thing.
Dashboards vs. audits
Monitoring tools track what AI engines say about you. They show dashboards and trend lines. They answer: "Is AI mentioning my brand?"
Audit tools analyze your actual content and tell you what to fix. They answer: "Why isn't AI citing my content, and what changes will improve that?"
Most of the funding and attention has gone into monitoring. That's backwards.
Monitoring tells you the score. It does not move the score. If your content isn't structured for AI to extract clean, citable passages, watching a dashboard won't change that. Fix the content first. Then track whether the fixes worked.

The monitoring landscape
Profound has the most significant fundraise in the category — $155 million total, including a February 2026 Series C at a $1 billion valuation. The dashboards are comprehensive. Ten AI engines monitored simultaneously. But here is the question nobody selling monitoring wants you to ask: what do you do with that information? Profound cannot tell you why your content isn't being cited. It cannot tell you your heading hierarchy is broken or that your HTML degrades when AI models convert it to their working format. It watches the outputs without diagnosing the inputs. The Starter tier begins at $99/month but monitors ChatGPT only. The Growth tier, which adds Perplexity and Google AI Overviews, runs $399/month. At any price, you still need a separate tool to actually fix what you're observing.
Ahrefs Brand Radar comes from a company with genuinely strong data. Their research shows AI Overviews reduce organic clicks by 58%, which is part of why they built Brand Radar. But at $699/month on top of an existing Ahrefs subscription, this is purely monitoring. No page-level analysis. No recommendations. That's $8,400 per year to track a number you need a different tool to move.
Semrush AI Visibility integrates AI tracking into its SEO platform. Convenient for existing customers. The uncertainty: Adobe announced it will acquire Semrush for $1.9 billion in November 2025, with the deal pending regulatory approval and expected to close in the first half of 2026. Product direction during a major acquisition integration is unpredictable, and GEO features are add-on capabilities, not the core product.
Otterly.AI does prompt-based monitoring well. Their research found 95% of AI answers depend on third-party sources, which is credible work that validates the category. At $29/month for 15 prompts, it's the most affordable option. It still can't tell you what to change on your pages.
ZipTie is worth noting for agencies. Built by the team at Onely and endorsed by well-known SEO practitioners including Lily Ray, Aleyda Solis, and Kevin Indig, it carries genuine credibility. The tool focuses on domain-level AI visibility rather than page-level diagnosis. It tells you whether your site appears in AI-generated answers across a set of tracked prompts, with reporting designed for client delivery. Like the other monitoring tools, it cannot identify which specific page elements are preventing AI citation or tell you what to change.
The audit landscape
Geoptie has a free GEO audit with no signup. Low friction. The concern is that their audit methodology is not publicly documented. When you can't see what an audit checks, how it weights those checks, or what research backs the methodology, you're trusting a black box. Hard to prioritize fixes when you don't understand what the score measures.
SE Visible (formerly SE Ranking) offers a 25-factor GEO audit alongside its broader SEO platform starting around $79/month. The audit covers content structure and technical signals and is the most comparable audit depth among non-purpose-built tools. The weighting methodology is not published, which makes it harder to prioritize fixes with confidence. For teams already in the SE Visible ecosystem, the GEO module is a practical addition. For teams evaluating audit tools on their own merit, the undisclosed methodology is a limitation worth weighing.
What we built
We built GeoScored because nothing else goes deep enough.
GeoScored runs checks across five categories: Content Quality, AI Discovery, Brand Authority, Citation Readiness, and Site Health. You get a 0-100 score with a prioritized list of what to fix and why each fix matters, not just a number, but a ranked list of specific changes ordered by impact.
Five of those checks have no competitive equivalent among the tools we've reviewed: answer-first structure analysis, fact density measurement, passage self-containment scoring, markdown fidelity testing, and JavaScript rendering gap analysis. GeoScored also validates llms.txt specification compliance — grading file structure and content quality against the llmstxt.org spec, not just checking whether the file exists. These checks evaluate whether AI models can extract clean, citable passages from your content, not just whether you've ticked the standard SEO boxes.
Where monitoring tools tell you IF AI mentions your brand, GeoScored tells you WHY your content isn't being cited and WHAT to change. The AI Brand Check queries AI engines directly and shows you how they describe your brand right now, as a diagnostic, not a trend line.
Pricing:
- AI Visibility Screening: free, includes scores, summaries, and a preview of recommendations, instant results, no account required
- Full GEO Audit: $19, all checks with the AI Brand Check, expanded Brand Authority analysis (Knowledge Graph, E-E-A-T, entity consistency, topical clustering), and PDF export
- Scan packs available for volume buyers (credits never expire)
How to choose
The decision comes down to where you are in the process.
Start with an audit if: you have not measured your AI readiness before, you've made significant content or structural changes, or you want to know what to prioritize before spending on ongoing monitoring.
Add monitoring after: you've audited and addressed the highest-impact issues. Monitoring tells you whether your fixes are translating to AI citation gains. It is a feedback loop, not a starting point.
Use both if: you are managing multiple sites or serving clients who need both a baseline and ongoing visibility tracking. ZipTie and Profound are reasonable monitoring additions once you know what you're tracking and why.
Buying monitoring before auditing is like tracking your weight before you've identified what to change about your diet. The number matters, but it doesn't move without the work underneath it.
AI Overviews now appear in an estimated 30–50% of US search queries, with the share varying by search category and growing through 2025 into 2026. AI-referred traffic to websites grew 527% in the first five months of 2025 alone. This is not a future trend. It is the current reality.
If you want to understand what signals drive AI citation and why branded mentions matter more than backlinks, our breakdown of AI brand reputation covers the research in detail.
Run a free GeoScored scan. It takes under two minutes, checks your AI readiness, and shows you prioritized recommendations. No account required.
