Frequently Asked Questions
Understanding AI Search
What is GEO and how is it different from SEO?
SEO (Search Engine Optimization) helps you rank in Google's list of blue links. GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) helps AI (Artificial Intelligence) search engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini find, quote, and cite your content inside their answers. The ranking signals are different: structured content, schema markup, and AI crawler access matter more than backlinks and keyword density.
Are people actually using AI search instead of Google?
Yes. ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google's own AI Overviews now answer millions of queries that used to produce a traditional search results page. If your content isn't optimized for these engines, you're invisible to a growing share of your audience.
What happens if I do nothing?
AI search engines will still answer questions about your industry. They'll just cite your competitors instead. The longer you wait, the more those competitors become the "default source" that AI engines learn to reference.
How is Agent Layer different from Semrush or Ahrefs?
Semrush and Ahrefs are full SEO suites that track keywords, backlinks, and rankings. Agent Layer focuses exclusively on GEO: whether AI search engines can find, extract, and cite your content. We run 6 checks that no competitor offers, including answer-first content analysis, passage self-containment scoring, and llms.txt validation. The output is prescriptive: not just a score, but exactly what to fix. And it starts at $5, not $29 per month.
How the Scan Works
What does the scan check?
The audit covers three GEO pillars. Technical AI-Readiness: whether AI crawlers can reach and read your pages. Structural Extractability: whether AI can pull useful quotes from your content. Entity Strength: whether AI engines know your brand correctly. You get a GEO score out of 100 with prioritized recommendations for each area. You also get a separate SEO health check covering meta tags, social sharing tags, link health, image optimization, indexability, and page speed signals.
How long does a scan take?
Most scans finish in under a minute. You'll see real-time progress as each stage completes, and the report loads automatically when it's ready.
Do you need access to my CMS (Content Management System) or backend?
No. The scan only looks at what's publicly visible, the same way an AI crawler would see your site. You just enter your URL (Uniform Resource Locator). No CMS login required.
Can I scan a subdomain like blog.example.com?
Yes. Enter any public URL, including subdomains like blog.example.com or docs.example.com. Many companies run different tech stacks on different subdomains, so each one can score differently. Scanning them separately gives you a clearer picture of where AI search engines can and cannot find your content.
Can I scan a specific page instead of my whole domain?
Yes. Enter the full URL of any public page. The scan analyzes whatever URL you provide.
Pricing & Plans
What's the difference between the Lite Scan and the Full Report?
The Lite Scan ($5) gives you your overall AI Visibility score, pillar breakdowns, and the single most important recommendation for each check. The Full Report ($49, or $44 to upgrade from Lite) includes every recommendation, the detailed data behind each score, PDF export, and the AI Brand Check. The AI Brand Check queries ChatGPT, Gemini, and other AI models to show you exactly what they say about your brand. It's the check most customers want to see first.
Do you offer monthly subscription plans?
Yes. Three plans are available for teams and agencies that scan regularly. Starter ($99/month) includes 10 full scans. Professional ($299/month) includes 50 scans plus API access. Partner ($499/month) includes 100 scans plus API access. Every subscription scan is a full report with all recommendations and PDF export included. For volumes above 100, contact us for custom pricing.
What happens if I use all my monthly scans?
Additional scans cost $29 each, which is a discount from the $49 one-time price. Unused scans do not roll over to the next month.
Can I upgrade from Lite to Full later?
Yes. Every Lite Scan has an upgrade button. You pay $44 (the difference) and get the Full Report for the same scan, including the AI Brand Check. No need to re-run it.
What if the scan fails? Am I still charged?
No. Your card is authorized when you start a scan, but we only capture the charge if the scan completes successfully. If anything goes wrong, the authorization is released automatically and you are not charged.
Account & Privacy
How do I create an account?
Enter your email and we'll send you a magic link. Click the link, and you're logged in. No password to create or remember. The link expires after 15 minutes for security. Your account is created automatically the first time you log in.
Is my URL and data private?
Yes. Your scan results are tied to your account and not shared publicly. We don't sell or share your data. You can read our full privacy policy at /privacy.
What if my site uses a lot of JavaScript?
The scan specifically checks for JavaScript rendering gaps. It compares what a browser sees after running JavaScript against what a simpler crawler sees without it. If there's a gap, the report tells you exactly what content is missing and flags common single-page application frameworks like React, Next.js, and Vue.
After Your Scan
I got my report. Now what?
Start with the highest-priority recommendations. Each one tells you what's wrong, why it matters for AI visibility, and what to fix. Full Reports include a PDF export and a share link so you can send the findings to your developer, agency, or team. Most fixes are straightforward changes to your site's configuration or content structure.
Can I share my report with someone?
Yes. Generate a share link from your report page. Anyone with the link can view a summary of your results without creating an account. Full Reports also include PDF export so you can email or present the complete findings.
How often should I re-scan?
After you make changes based on your report, scan again to verify the fixes. Beyond that, a quarterly scan catches new issues from site updates, CMS changes, or shifts in AI crawler behavior. If you scan regularly, a monthly subscription starting at $99/month is more cost-effective than individual scans.
Do you have an API?
Yes. Create an API key from your dashboard and access all scan data as structured JSON. You can create scans, check status, and retrieve full reports programmatically. API access is included with Professional and Partner subscription plans. Documentation is available at /docs/api.
